THE CIRCUMCISION OF HEARTS BY JESUS CHRIST (JOSHUA 5:1-12)

JOSHUA 5 :1-12

1 And it came to pass, when all the kings of the Amorites, which were on the side of Jordan westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites, which were by the sea, heard that the LORD had dried up the waters of Jordan from before the children of Israel, until we were passed over, that their heart melted, neither was there spirit in them any more, because of the children of Israel.

2 At that time the LORD said unto Joshua, Make thee sharp knives, and circumcise again the children of Israel the second time.

3 And Joshua made him sharp knives, and circumcised the children of Israel at the hill of the foreskins.

4 And this is the cause why Joshua did circumcise: All the people that came out of Egypt, that were males, even all the men of war, died in the wilderness by the way, after they came out of Egypt.

5 Now all the people that came out were circumcised: but all the people that were born in the wilderness by the way as they came forth out of Egypt, them they had not circumcised.

6 For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the people that were men of war, which came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD: unto whom the LORD sware that he would not shew them the land, which the LORD sware unto their fathers that he would give us, a land that floweth with milk and honey.

7 And their children, whom he raised up in their stead, them Joshua circumcised: for they were uncircumcised, because they had not circumcised them by the way.

8 And it came to pass, when they had done circumcising all the people, that they abode in their places in the camp, till they were whole.

9 And the LORD said unto Joshua, This day have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you. Wherefore the name of the place is called Gilgal unto this day.

10 And the children of Israel encamped in Gilgal, and kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the month at even in the plains of Jericho.

11 And they did eat of the old corn of the land on the morrow after the passover, unleavened cakes, and parched corn in the selfsame day.

12 And the manna ceased on the morrow after they had eaten of the old corn of the land; neither had the children of Israel manna any more; but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.

We greet you in the name  of our lord Jesus Christ.

I hope that you’ve seen the garments of soldiers from various countries  wherever in the world, and observed how they  are looking like from boot to the hat.

The main difference remains only on their badges for precising the identification of a specific country  to one soldier could belong. The same way in salvation, God needs to check if you are righteous through the circumcision  as he did at Gilgal towards
Israelites.

This scripture  above from the book of Joshua is related to the circumcision of Israelites at  Gilgal. That action was not new, but redone, for long ago,  so that the men of God would do it
in order to confirm that they were walking in the path of God. Genesis 17 :9-10 ;       Exodus 4 :24-26

You can ask for what purpose God insisted on that action ? Long ago, that circumcision was made as an action to restate the covenant between God and his people. That time at Gilgal, almost all the men who served at the front in military had passed away and, the remaining  generation was still uncircumcised.   It must be be done to remove the reproach of Egypt
from them.

What was the spiritual meaning of the circumcision ?

The bible says that it was  for the putting off of the sinful nature by the circumcision made by Jesus ,  but not by men : Inside our hearts, as having the forgiveness of sin.
God wants to see if our heart is really circumcised, if we are walking through his path, to know if we are righteous.          Colossians 2:1-12

Three images of people are in the sight of God :
1-Uncircumcised one.

: 2- Not yet  healed from  wound of
circumcision.

:3–Already healed the wounds  of his circumcised
heart.

1-  Uncircumcised one :

This is the one who has not yet  listened to the true gospel.

2-  Not yet healed from the wound of circumcision :

Those are like the people who are attending the church, listening to the true  gospel, but do not believe.  Their wounds are not yet healed, so their sins still  inside their hearts.
That kind of unhealed wound is so awful and stinking.  If treated well and healed,  it has to leave  a deep scar . The same way,  no spiritual men can not praise God and are exhaling a
bad odor that they could not be used to serve Him.

3- With already healed wounds of their circumcised hearts :

This matches to that one who hears the gospel, recognizes his true image and choose  to deny himself  for the accepting of  the forgiveness of sin. This one, is a good tool  and God delights to use him.

Luke10 :30-37 tells about someone who came from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell into the hands of robbers who stripped him and tear his clothes.  He was left half-dead.

Spiritually that man who fell into the hands of robbers represents  a christian.
The robbers  stood for the evil spirits which are now at work to engulf  a born again  christian from the will of God, as this Samaritan represents  Jesus Christ.

When the Samaritan reached the beaten man,  he felt pity and took care to him. He cleansed his wounds and clothed them with pure oil and  wine. This wine represents the blood of Jesus Christ shed on the cross, as the oil represents the Holy Spirit. Agreeing that those wounds represented the sins,  and the whole content of this passage relates the complete action
accomplished by Jesus Christ at calvary on the cross. Submitting the wounded man to the Innkeeper  for his total healing and care, refers us to how the servants of God deal with
sinners  into the church. Inn is compared to the church at work.
What is found in the church ?
That is the true gospel which is shared there for the healing of sinner’s wounds of their hearts. Remember that the Israelites would stay in the camp till theirs wounds would be totally healed, and  alike, Christians have to continually hear to  the word of God  for the increase of their faith so that their wounds do not decay  to the exhaling of bad
odor.
Unhealed people from circumcision have to perish, while the completely healed ones from Gilgal were ready to fight against the kings of Jericho, the five kings of Amolitites as against other kings opposing them in the promise land.

How can a sinner fight against devil, seeing that all the works in the God ministry is a war against Satan spiritually ?if your wounds are not healed, nothing from your works can praise God.
This scripture says that at Gilgal, the manna stopped, so people started to eat the products of the promise land Canaan. Comparatively, the gospel as our spiritual food will
have to cease, and we will start to eat the heavenly food : The fruits from the tree of life in the paradise of God.
This will take place with the rapture.  Revelation 2 :7

The days are coming for those who are only circumcised in flesh, declares the Lord. For all the nations are really uncircumcised, and, even the whole house of Israel is alike.
Jeremiah 9 :25-26
